Vitesse and EN-Genius Network Name Winners of Discover Your True EyeQ Design Challenge and Showcase Innovative Applications for VScope
VScope Is Used to Identify Jitter Sources and Monitor Optical Channels in Communication Systems
CAMARILLO, Calif. - May 06, 2009 - Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (Pink Sheets: VTSS.PK), together with EN-Genius Network, the premier online editorial source for electronic design engineers, has selected the winners of the “Discover Your True EyeQ” VScope Engineering Design Challenge launched at DesignCon 2009. The contest invited engineers and engineering students to submit a paper focusing on a unique design application using one of several Vitesse IC products that incorporates VScope embedded waveform viewing technology. Paper entries were judged based on originality, technical innovation, practicality, and commercial potential. Prizes will be awarded to the winners during the month of May.
The first place winner is Dr. Cosmin Iorga, founder and president of NoiseCoupling.com, whose paper entitled “Circuit and Algorithm for using VScope to Identify the Sources of Crosstalk and Noise Coupling Induced Jitter in Data Communication Systems” describes a method for identifying the sources of deterministic jitter in data communication systems. Dr. Iorga's method accomplishes this feat by using VScope-enabled transmitters and receivers together with an algorithm that calculates the Fourier transforms of the data stream and noise waveforms to establish correlation between the deterministic jitter components on the data stream and the noise frequency components on the chip substrate and power supplies. Dr. Iorga will receive a cash prize of $10,000 USD.
The second place winner is Mr. Fadi Daou, CEO of MultiLane SAL, who submitted a paper entitled “XFP Module with VScope Capability.” In his paper, Mr. Daou describes how, with the addition of VScope, XFP modules can be enhanced to perform optical channel monitoring and provide feedback on the quality of the received optical signal, enabling channel optimization and comprehensive signal analysis at a fraction of the cost of expensive rack and stack equipment. Mr. Daou will receive a cash prize of $5,000 USD.
