Vitesse's FTTX Technology Ecosystem is a network of leading technology companies to collectively address and advance development of next-generation, end-to-end, passive optical networking (PON) systems. This enables a smooth network transition to higher data rates and bandwidth intensive triple-play applications and services, such as HD IPTV, video-on-demand (VoD), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and peer-to-peer networking.
Members of this FTTX Ecosystem will apply their respective architectural expertise to the deployment of 10G and 40G PON in access networks that deliver triple play services for high-speed data, voice, and video transmissions. Each company offers specific PON expertise and is well underway with their contribution to making next-generation wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) and high-speed PON-based networks a reality.
Ecosystem participation ensures proven interoperability with sub-systems and component vendors. This collective effort will focus on standards compliance, backward compatibility, and a smooth upgrade path from existing PON networks.
What does this mean for communications service providers? An accelerated and cost-effective migration path to higher data rates within the existing network infrastructure.
