The SparX-II-24 is a 24-port Switch-on-a-Chip (SoC) device with an integrated high-performance VCore-II processor. SparX-II-24 is the second generation of the popular the SparX™ family of Gigabit Ethernet switches. SparX-II-24 is targeted at cost-effective Web-managed or managed standalone switches. The QoS and security features make SparX-II-24 ideal for VoIP, WLAN and triple-play enabled switches. Excellent SerDes and nonblocking switching performance also makes SparX-II-24 perfect for use in embedded switch backplane applications, such as modular computer servers and DSLAMs. The VCAP content-aware TCAM-based packet processor allows a rich implementation of security features for wireline and wireless applications. The flexible VCAP engine supports wire-speed inbound and outbound packet inspection based on Layer 2 through Layer 4 packet information, including the ability to perform longest prefix matching and identify port ranges. The subsequent actions include the ability to do packet filtering, rate limitation, snooping, and accounting. The VCAP embeds powerful protocol awareness for well-known protocols, such as ARP, IPv4, IPv6, and UDP/TCP. The embedded VCore-II CPU system makes it possible to create a cost-effective Web-managed or managed switch, combining the Vitesse state-of-the-art octal PHYs with SparX-II-24, without the need for an external CPU. The VCore-II is ideal for operating systems such as Linux, eCos, and VxWorks™. SparX-II-24 is a perfect choice for Carrier Ethernet applications, as it supports Synchronous Ethernet with SSM according to ITU-G.8264/Y.1362 and offers fast protection switching with switching times that are significantly below the 50 ms telecom requirement.
