125 Mbps to 6.25 Gbps Multirate SerDes With VScope
The VSC3441 is a multirate, multiprotocol serialization/deserialization (SerDes) transceiver device. The VSC3441 is the first high-speed SerDes device to incorporate Vitesse’s breakthrough VScope™ input signal monitoring integrated circuit enabling a live oscilloscope view into the receiver of input clock data recovery (CDR) circuits and telemetry of high-speed signals. The VSC3441 functions as a single 20:1 and 1:20 SerDes. The device also supports encoded or unencoded parallel interfaces with 8-bit and 16-bit word widths. The most advanced high-speed SerDes solution available today, the VSC3441 device operates at selected data rates from 125 Mbps to 6.25 Gbps and incorporates advanced equalization to compensate for various impairments and losses encountered in copper cables and backplane traces and connectors. The high-speed CDR removes random jitter from optical fiber links. The I/O characteristics are programmable for interfacing to a wide variety of devices and protocols. Vitesse’s equalization (EQ) technology improves signal recovery and regeneration along with reducing jitter associated with multi-gigabit signals across PCBs, backplanes, and cables. Ensuring carrier-class performance, VSC3441 combines clock and data recovery with adaptive, programmable equalization to address both random and deterministic jitter. The VSC3441 also enables in-line signal monitoring through Vitesse's VScope input signal monitoring integrated circuit that embeds an oscilloscope function into the receiver of input CDR circuits. VScope makes accurate signal monitoring possible by scanning a signal after the IC equalization, but before conversion to a digital stream.
